Actions in Progress : Education

Workforce training programs that address the specific needs of sustainability-oriented industries are available to county residents, but more students could be accomodated. A comprehensive vocational training strategy requires additional programs and better marketing to the community.

  • Identify existing workforce education and training programs at all educational levels that support sustainable economic development.
  • Develop a marketing / outreach strategy to promote these programs.
  • Convene a forum of sustainably-oriented employers to identify unmet workforce needs and to begin to develop solutions that address those needs.
  • Work with the local schools, Coconino Community College, and Northern Arizona University to develop programs that will help address these needs.
  • Work with the Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce to expose students to green employment and business opportunities through its Partnership on Workforce Education and Readiness, or POWER, programs.
