Resources and Opportunities: Institute of Ecotourism

The Institute of EcoTourism is committed to solving environmental problems by promoting environmentally conscious tourism, sustainable community development and experiential, place-based environmental education. They seek to ensure that travel and tourism become a means of protecting the natural and cultural resources that the industry and local communities depend upon and that tourists value.

Located next to the historic cultural villa of Tlaquepaque in Sedona, Arizona, the Institute of EcoTourism aims to be a community resource for environmental education, resource conservation, and just plain fun. The Institute offers a series of state-of-the-art interactive exhibits exploring topics of natural history, indigenous cultures and resource conservation. The grounds of the Institute serve as a native plant exhibit and visitors are welcome to explore their organic greenhouse, a mock archeology excavation, and a series of learning stations focusing on the local plant and animal community. Visitors are also welcome to take advantage of computer stations offering internet access, or enjoy a program in the Sinagua Theater, which offers video presentations throughout the day.

For more information, please visit the IOET Web site, or call them at 928-282-2720.
