Green Light for Green Enterprise – 7:00 p.m., Thursday October 16
Green entrepreneur and best-selling author Daniel Hecht will kick off the SEDI 2008 Conference with a public lecture, Green Light for Green Enterprise: Success Stories from Vermont. The lecture will be at Flagstaff City Hall, 211 W. Aspen Ave., on Thursday, October 16, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. Daniel Hecht will bring success stories from Vermont in the development of a sustainable wood products industry and in education/workforce development. As executive director of Vermont Environmental Consortium (VEC), Hecht built a multi-disciplinary, multi-sector partnership of over ninety businesses, public agencies, educational institutions, and nonprofit organizations that has catalyzed green economic development in the state. Under his leadership, VEC created innovative links among diverse constituencies, pioneering novel partnerships to foster green jobs creation and economic growth. Vermont now employs twice as many people in green enterprises as the national average. Now working as a consultant for VEC and other organizations, Hecht serves as project coordinator for a multi-million dollar food-waste-to-energy biodigester that partners a solid waste management district, Vermont Technical College, and several nonprofit organizations. The project is funded by a U.S. Dept. of Energy grant.
Daniel Hecht’s career has followed diverse professional paths. He was a solo guitarist and recording artist who has performed at Carnegie Hall and around the world. Hecht is also the author of six novels published in the U.S. in 70 editions and fourteen languages, including bestsellers in the U.S, England, Holland, and Israel. His novel, Land of Echoes, is set on the Navajo Reservation. Now working as an organizational development consultant specializing in the arts, education administration, and green economic development, Hecht is a popular public speaker. He is known for inspiring enthusiasm and sparking creative, innovative ideas for green enterprise and a sustainable economy. SEDI’s annual conference will be held at NAU on Friday, October 17. The conference is designed to help participants make critical connections in green education, workforce training, and business development.
