Resources and Opportunities : NAU Tech Transfer

Tech transfer is the process of transferring discoveries from academic laboratories to businesses that can take them into the commercial marketplace. Northern Arizona University (NAU) does not have an on-campus program in place for management of intellectual property, including patents, inventions, software, and other copyrightable works. The majority of new inventions developed at NAU are in the environmental sciences and biotechnology.

Currently, NAU faculty are required to disclose inventions developed as part of their work on campus to the Office of the Vice Provost for Research and Graduate Studies. This information is then turned over to an organization in Phoenix – Arizona Technology Enterprises LLC – that manages and evaluates NAU's intellectual property. The new NAU interim Vice President of Research has an opportunity to review these policies and procedures and to make recommendations to the President.
